Opentherm is a language, a standardized communication protocol that is the same for all compatible devices. If they speak the same language, then they are able to communicate with each other.

In the domestic environment, the standard is used to regulate modulating boilers, i.e. boilers that can control the power of the flame based on the ambient temperature, with an important advantage compared to on-off boilers in which the flame is on or off, with no ways middle. This allows you to save up to 30% more energy in the daily use of heating, avoiding reaching too high water temperatures which would mean waste of energy.

The Z-Wave interface / actuator for OpenTherm boilers is a device specifically developed to control the main brands that produce new generation boilers that support the Opentherm protocol. The device is compatible with the Z-Wave protocol and can therefore be used with the MyVirtuoso Home gateway and with all other gateways that support this wireless communication standard. In combination with a temperature sensor it is therefore able to function as a real latest generation thermostat.

The device is powered by main supply and in combination with the Smartdhome cloud services is able to allow the provision of Predictive Maintenance services and the efficiency of energy consumption.

Compatibility

Currently the boilers of the following manufacturers have been tested: Argoclima, Atag, Baxi, Beretta, Biasi Caldaie, Cosmogas, Daikin, Ferroli, Fondital, Italtherm, La Bongio, LG, Savio, Sime, Sylber, Panasonic, Ravenheat, Riello, Unical, Immergas, Innovita e Arca Caldaie. They are therefore compatible with our Z-Wave actuator for OpenTherm boilers. From our experience, all the other brands that support the OpenTherm protocol are also normally compatible.
